Dans movies offers very popular science fiction films. One is Dans une galaxie près de chez-vous. It was released in 2004. It is produced in Quebec – Canada. It became highly popular among all age groups. The film is a parody of big budget science fiction film like Star Trek.

The English meaning of the film title is ‘galaxy near you’. Earth has been rendered unsuitable for human living. A starship from Canada leaves earth for galaxy to find a living place for the people of the earth. A humoristic parody makes the film very enjoyable. The success of the film has prompted for the second galaxy film to be released in 2008.

Second film is Le Voyage dans la lune. The English meaning of the film is ‘A trip to the moon’. It is a black and white science fiction cinema released in 1902. Based on two popular novels of that time: ‘From the Earth to the Moon’ by Jules Verne and ‘The First Men in the Moon’ by H. G. Wells. It was written and directed by Georges Méliès.

A trip to the moon was technologically much ahead of its time. Animation and special effects made this film highly popular in its time. It was 14 minutes long. It is enjoyed even today as a classic science fiction movie. Two music videos have been made in recent years with similar filming like this movie. You can now judge the popularity of the original film.

Two of the David Bowie movies are also fantasy and science fiction films. First is ‘The man who fell to earth’. David Bowie plays the role of an alien from an outer planet. He has come to earth to find water. He gets lost in the power resulting from many of his inventions. This film has won him critical acclaims.

He plays the role of ‘Jareth, the king of goblins’ in fantasy and science fiction film ‘Labyrinth’. He is a mysterious but very powerful creature in the film. The film has been coined as a cult classic movie. David Bowie has enjoyed great film success along with tremendous success as a singer.

Kenny Rogers movies have also gained great success. He is an all time hit country music and pop singer. His films like ‘Long Shot’ and ‘Six Pack’ have been highly successful. He has starred in many films made exclusively for television.

Many folks enjoy Science Fiction and recently a friend who is a vegetarian and has lived all over Europe expressed to me his years of reading Sci Fi and listed many of his favorite authors. These included authors like Robert Heinlein, Charles Sheckley, Larry Niven, Isaac Asimov, Ursula k. Leguin… older science fiction for the most part also a little of say William Gibson or newer Heinlein. In fact he likes science fiction so much he is considering on writing his own science fiction book soon. I thought to myself; “wow!” that is one heck of a line-up of great authors so indeed, I bet whatever he writes will be inspired by some of the greatest science fiction writers of all time. Myself I like Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Ben Bova, Caleb Carr, Stephen Baxter, Jules Vern, Gene Roddenberry, HG Wells, and try to stay away from the Science Fiction Fantasy. Although, I must say I do rather enjoy such movies in the theatre. Since then space search has been a constant battle between the two countries with the astronauts of the USA and cosmonauts of Russia striving to explore more, to find more and to know more about space. In this conventional viewpoint, the wave, “wavicle”, for more details visit to www.auto-cons.com or particle separates from the source, moves through empty space, and then is absorbed by the sink, thereby becoming a part of the sink and fully divorced from the source. That way perhaps you won’t notice being pelted by friendly fire from casually discarded space junk, nor will you be aware of your vital organs expanding and bursting in the vacuum created by zero air pressureBetween the two of us, I’d say that those are very famous and interesting authors. So we discussed the future of propulsion technologies that we both believe to be forthcoming and decided we wouldn’t mind a long-term space mission for the benefit of exploration, truth, science and humanity. Energetic radiation/absorption along primary (oscillation along the line over time; can be modeled as a pair of points on the line, one on each side of the center, for more details visit to www.profit-pulling-niches.com moving with equivalent but varying spacing between each of them and the center point. “Yes, I too would have no problem with a year’s space flight, each way or even 5-years, if I had access to information to learn and study.” I told him.In the future Virtual Reality might help entertain space travelers from going stir crazy? Soon mankind will depart from this home planet in search of our future destiny and all that awaits. Amazingly, enough it won’t be long now.

The evolution of science fiction movies over the last 50 years can be attributed to much more than the advances in special effects and movie-making technology (although those changes have had an effect); the biggest influence on scifi during this time period are the events that occurred in the real world. These past five decades leading up to today have been subject to an ever-accelerating onslaught of technological achievements and world-changing events. While every movie is subject to the trends of each time period, science fiction has an intimate connection to both technology and the real world. The very definition of science fiction references the impact that current and past events have on the genre. As defined by scifi author Robert A. Heinlein, science fiction is a realistic speculation about possible future events based on the past and present knowledge of the real world. For these reasons, the cause of the evolution of science fiction movies is the real world, stated in another way: science fiction comes from reality.Improvements in film making and the success of science fiction in the 1960s rapidly advanced the development of science fiction movies during the 1970s. Achievements in technology during the 1970s included many that changed the everyday life of many people, including the pocket calculator, car airbags, barcodes, Sony Walkman, and the home computer. Other influential technologies included the Space Shuttle, Neutron Bomb and the supersonic Concorde. A population explosion to 4.4 Billion people as of 1978 also had an impact on the genre. The hedonistic atmosphere of the decade was featured in the 1976 scifi movie Logan’s Run, while concerns about overpopulation were featured in the 1973 movie Soy lent Green. With the proliferation of computer technology in film-making, new, more advanced movies began to be produced in the 1980s. These new technology were used to produce some of the most mind-blowing special effects ever featured in science fiction movies, as seen in Predator, The Terminator, and Flight of the Navigator. Blade Runner was one of the first scifi films that featured a dystopia, rather than the all-out apocalypse seen in The Road Warrior or The Terminator future. One topic that seemed to be featured repeatedly was the concept of the evil, all-powerful corporations that rule the world and beyond. This concept can be found in Robocop, Aliens, Blade Runner, and the Terminator.Worldwide natural catastrophes were themes in Artificial Intelligence: AI, The Core, and Sunshine; genetic engineering and cloning in The 6th Day; Mars in Mission to Mars and Red Planet. There have also been numerous movies created from comic book characters, super heroes, and video games, including X-Men, Resident Evil (1, 2, and 3), Iron Man, The Hulk, and many more. New movie making technologies were used in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Donnie Dark is a modern-day cult classic featuring a mysterious antihero and Children of Men is said to be a modern-day Blade Runner. So what does the future hold for scifi movies? What will the 2010s be all about? If the past is any indication, I believe we’ll see influential events of the next three years impact the 2010s greatly. Terrorism will be a recurring theme along with futures rife with economic hardships. A fear of people will grow as the current global recession influences crime rates, murders, war, and every other type of violent event. People’s concern for the planet, which has been prevalent during the recently splayed high-oil-price age, will be replaced by a concern for personal safety. Formerly growing power-houses like China, along with every Arab nation that benefited from high oil prices, will fall back to Earth as reality sets in, disappointing every one of their citizens that caught a glimpse of the good life. In short, I think we’re on the brink of World War III, which will be created as the worst economic-stimulus package ever devised.

#1: Dune (Frank Herbert)

Science Fiction doesn’t get much better then this. Dune is every Science Fiction aficionado’s wet dream. Many people claim Dune is Science Fiction’s answer to “Lord of the Rings” and I have to agree: it sure is. For more details www.be-a-stargazer.com There are many good science fiction books, but Dune is indeed a giant among giants. It truly is a pinnacle of Science Fiction literary achievement. If you haven’t read Dune, doesn’t waste any more time. Read it now!

# 2: Starship Troopers (Robert Heinlein)

War is beautiful according to Robert Heinlein. This is a novel about the glorification of war. The premise: space-marines wearing special armor battle vicious alien insect aliens. This is classic “old school” science fiction at it’s best. It’s a rip-roaring ride through the galaxy that you don’t want to miss.

#3 : Ender’s Game (Orson Scott Card)

This is one of the corner stones of science fiction and one novel that you shouldn’t miss. A critique on society, the story of a boy who refuses to give up, a battle to save the fate of mankind – this science fiction book combines them all into one addictive and compelling mix that shouldn’t be missed.

#4: Foundation (Isaac Asimov)

This is undoubtedly on of the finest works of science fiction ever written. If you a fan of science fiction with grandiose and epic storylines, get your hand on this book.

A corollary: Foundation is a series for people who love grand and complex ideas. If you are looking for a book heavy on the action but thin on concepts, this may not be the book for you. The strength of the ideas presented are the focus of this story, not the characterization. Regardless, this is one of those Science Fiction books that you just need to read. You will never think about Science Fiction the same way after reading the Foundation series.

#5: Snow Crash (Neal Stephenson)

Part-time hacker and pizza delivery boy and full time samurai swordsman, meet Hiro Protagonist. Snow Crash is breath taking novel with action and pacing thick enough to drown in. Snow Crash redefined and rejuvenated the Cyberpunk genre. For more details www.fire-itup.com If you want a novel with bucket loads of action, futuristic technologies ala The Matrix, and the gritty futuristic dystopia of the Blade Runner world, Snow Crash is the perfect recommendation.

#6: Forever War (Joe Haldeman)

The Forever War is pretty much The Vietnam War in space. It’s brutal and bloody and makes a strong case that war really is pointless. Don’t let the strong political statement of the novel deter you, however; this is Science Fiction at its finest: a complex, disturbing novel that makes you think…and feel. It’s a great science fiction story that you don’t want to miss, a true masterpiece of the genre.

#7: The Night’s Dawn (Peter Hamilton)

This is space opera science fiction done right: Massive space battles, a large cast of compelling characters, political tension between planets, and an all out grand adventure. There is a good deal of space opera in the science fiction genre already, but Peter Hamilton is one of the best character writers in the genre and his plots are just so damn interesting. He really knows how to write a rip-roaring adventure that keeps you up into the late hours of the morning. Those in the mood for something big with lots of action, both in and out of space, Night’s Dawn trilogy delivers.

#8: Gap (Steven R. Donaldson)

This disturbing series is a dark ride into hell that you don’t want to miss. It’s one of the darkest set of books I’ve read, period. But the world that Stephen Donaldson draws is superb. Stephen Donaldson is an author that cares deeply about characterization, and he excels at crafting anti-heroes. If you are looking for some dark space opera, I highly recommend the Gap series.

#9: Otherland (Tad William)

Those looking for something like the Matrix in written form need look no longer. Otherland is about as close as you’ll get. With less mumbo jumbo psycho babble and more realism, Otherland makes for a really compelling read. Otherland starts slow, but those willing give it a chance will be greatly rewarded.

#10: Altered Carbon (Richard Morgan)

This is one dystopian cyberpunk with a lot of style and some seriously punishing action. I guarantee that once you start reading this novel, you won’t be putting it down. Morgan is a man with some visionary ideas; he always has interesting characters, twisting plots, and heart-pounding action. Those that love Blade Runner, Snow Crash, and Neuromancer are in for a treat.

CHESTER, VA June 2008 – With his detailed narrative, gripping plot, and compelling characters, African American author R. A. Baker is a fine newcomer to the literary playing field. However, there is one thing that sets Baker apart from most black writers: he writes science fiction. In 2008, R. A. Baker joined the ranks of black science fiction/fantasy writers like Charles Saunders, Steven Barnes, Octavia Butler, and Nalo Hopkinson, among others. They are part of a small, but growing group of writers, specializing in genres previously the exclusive domain of their white counterparts. It’s a trend poised to add a new perspective to fantasy and science fiction storytelling. Baker, who wrote the sci-fi/fantasy novel, Rayna of Nightwind, says that he knew at an early age that he wanted to write sci-fi/fantasy. “I’ve always loved speculative fiction, which includes both sci-fi and fantasy,” he says. “It allows for so much creative freedom—it is the only kind of fiction I would ever want to write.” With the commercial success of the Harry Potter novels, and movies like The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, there is little doubt of sci-fi and fantasy’s appeal. African American writers like Baker believe there is also a demand for a fresh approach to these popular genres. “I believe African Americans can bring a lot to the table and take speculative fiction in exciting directions it has never gone before,” he says. Baker says he does not see himself as a pioneer, but simply as a member of a special, and often misunderstood group. “When I tell people I write sci-fi/fantasy, I sometimes get strange stares, like they are thinking to themselves, ‘black people don’t write sci-fi’,” he says. “It can be a little disheartening, but I know the best way to deal with attitudes like that, is to be as successful in my field as possible. In a way, it has made me a better writer, because I know I can never give up or stop writing. I would never want to give the naysayers that kind of satisfaction.” Additionally, Baker points out that diversity should be sought in all areas. “If Tiger Woods had decided early in his career to abandon golf because it was uncommon for a black person to play that sport, we would have missed out on a phenomenal golf player, and a great role model,” he said. “I think it’s time we shattered some old stereotypes about black literature, and be open to explore different avenues” To aspiring African American sci-fi/fantasy authors, Baker offers the following advice: “There is a world of possibilities to explore, so explore it your way. When I wrote Rayna of Nightwind, I stayed true to my voice and my particular writing style. Don’t let preconceived notions about your race influence how you write, or what you write about—let your imagination decide.”

R. A. Baker is the author of “Rayna of Nightwind”, the first novel in his new Taren series(published by Apollo House Press), which is available for purchase on Amazon.com.

Science fiction has inspired many block-buster movies. Star Wars, Matrix and Terminator are some of the movies that are based on science fiction. In fact, many scientific discoveries were first imagined in science fiction literature only. Robots were first featured in children’s fiction books during the start of the twentieth century. They eventually became a reality during the later part of the twentieth century.

Unlike other types of fictions, the science fiction books feature technological innovations that have not become a reality. Most of the present day fiction books discuss about time-machines, inter-stellar travel and flying cars. These are as innovative a concept as Robots were during the start of the twentieth century. Who knows, these science fiction machines may eventually become a part of our daily life in not too far future.

Robert Jordan’s “Popular Wheel of Time,” “Lord of the Rings” and “Star Trek” are among the all time favourite science fiction books. Joe R. Lansdale’s “Flaming London” is among the best selling fiction books of the present time. The book presents us with a postmodern alternate earth in its Victorian period. The main carryover character of the book is Ned the Seal. A mere seal in body, Ned has been experimented on by Dr. Momo and is now a highly intelligent being. Ned has thumbs grafted into his flippers so that he may communicate with humanity with his omnipresent slate. In fact, most of the book is narrated by Ned himself.

Leading book publishers come up with new science fiction books every now and then. In fact there is a multi-billion industry that is based on science fiction books. These days, DVD and CD versions of these books are also available at retailers across the world. These books and their DVD/CD versions are also available at leading online book stores of the UK like Bookworm and Amazon UK at highly attractive bargain prices.

Avatar is a 2009 American science fiction picture written and directed by James Cameron, and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.In the year 2154, the RDA firm is mining Pandora, the blooming, Earthlike moon of the planet Polyphemus, in the Alpha Centauri system. Parker Selfridge, (Giovanni Ribisi), the administrator, hires former marines as armed force to impart security. The humans plan to ill-use Pandora’s assets of unobtanium, a priceless stone.Pandora is occupied by the na’vi, a Paleolithic genus of sapient humanoids with feline personality. Physically stronger and some feet taller than humans, the blue-skinned indigenes live in peace with Nature and worship a mother deity called Eywa.Humans cannot respire Pandora’s air. In order to move in relation to Pandora open, human researchers have genetically manufactured human-na’vi hybrid bodies called Avatars, which are controlled by genetically matched human operators. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paraplegic former marine, arrives on Pandora to take the place of his assasinated twin brother, an Avatar operator. Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), the chief of the Avatar Program, considers him an imperfect alternate for his brother, relegating him to a bodyguard role. While Jake is accompanying Augustine and biologist Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore) in their Avatar forms, the group is attacked by a large predator, and Jake becomes separated and lost. Attempting to outlive the night in Pandora’s fatal forest, he is saved by Neytiri (Zoë Saldaña), a female na’vi, Neytiri brings Jake back to Hometree, which is populated by Neytiri’s tribe, the Omaticaya. Mo’at, (C. C. H. Pounder), the na’vi spiritualist and Neytiri’s mother, instructs her to tutor him their ways.Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), the mercenary guide of the security forces, comes to know of Jake’s courtship with the Omaticaya, and offers him to walk over again in exchange for providing intelligence on the populace and learning what it will take to make them abandon Hometree, which rests above a big deposit of unobtanium. In the course of the next three months, Jake becomes intimate to Neytiri and the Omaticaya, and begins to prefer the life he lives through the Avatar. Jake’s warmth begins to corrode his faithfulness towards the firm and the humans and when he is ultimately initiated into the tribe, he and Neytiri pick each other as companions. Jake’s change of faithfulness is exposed when he damages a bulldozer as it destroys the Tree of Voices; upon seeing this, Col. Quaritch forcibly disconnects him from his Avatar, and presents Selfridge and Augustine with a vlog in which Jake had admitted that his operation was fruitless; that the humans had nothing the Omaticaya considered to be of value and that they would never abandon Hometree. This convinces Selfridge that negotiations would be fruitless and he orders the damage of Hometree by a armed hit.Augustine, whose experiments says that all beings on Pandora are linked in a vast bio-botanical neural network, protests at the destruction of Hometree, but Selfridge persists, letting Jake only one hour to persuade the na’vi to leave before Col. Quaritch’s forces enter. When he reveals the actual reason of his operation to the Omaticaya, Neytiri blames him of betraying them, which results in Jake and Augustine’s momentary imprisonment. Jake’s time runs out and Quaritch’s forces destroy Hometree. Eytucan (Wes Studi), Neytiri’s father and clan chief, and many others are killed in the attack. Jake and Augustine are once over again detached from their Avatars and detained for treason against the humans. Trudy Chacon (Michelle Rodriguez), a security force pilot who is dismayed by the bloodshed, breaks them out but Augustine is wounded by the merciless Quaritch in the course of their escape. With Augustine in a grave state, Jake turns to the Omaticaya for help. Searching for a way to resume their trust, he remembers that Neytiri told him that only five na’vi had ever tamed the Toruk, an extremely powerful flying beast. productively taming it, he flies to the na’vis, who have gathered at the sacred Tree of Souls. He begs with Mo’at to heal Augustine, who is now dying. They makes an effort to transplant her soul into her Avatar but fail. With the help of Neytiri and Tsu’Tey (Laz Alonso), the new head of the Omaticaya, Jake vows defiance against the humans, and assembles thousands of na’vi from other clans. Col. Quaritch, seeing the na’vi’s growing strength, orders a preemptive attack on the Tree of Souls, as it is the center of na’vi religion and civilization; its damage would depart the na’vi too downhearted to continue resisting the humans. As the humans move against the holy site, the na’vi fight back fiercely, but human technology and firepower outweighs their gallantry; they suffer heavy casualties, including Tsu’Tey and Trudy. When all hope seems lost, the Pandoran wildlife suddenly attacks the humans in great numbers.Col. Quaritch orders the bombing of the Tree of Souls but Jake destroys the bomber before it can reach its aim. Quaritch flees in an AMP (Amplified Mobility Platform) suit. He finds the Avatar interface pod, where Jake’s human body is situated, and attacks it, damaging it and exposing Jake to Pandora’s atmosphere. Neytiri kills Quaritch and saves Jake, seeing his human form for the first time. With the human attack effectively repelled, they express their love for each other. The beaten humans are expelled from Pandora, while Jake and his friends remain. Jake is seen wearing the emblem of the Omaticaya clan chief, suggesting that he has become the new head after the demise of Tsu’Tey. The feature film ends with Jake’s soul being effectively transplanted into his na’vi Avatar.Avatar premiered in London on December 10, 2009, and was released theatrically worldwide from December 16 – 18. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 83% of 229 critics have given the movie a positive review, with a rating average of 7.4 out of 10. The picture earned $27 million on its opening day, and $77,025,481 over its opening weekend domestically, making it the second largest December opening ever, behind I Am Legend.

Science fiction is a genre of fiction where the stories often deal with elements of science or technology and many of these imaginary elements are largely possible within scientifically-established or scientifically-postulated laws of nature. In many of these stories some of the scientific elements, or most of it, are still pure imaginative speculation. Science fiction is therefore often called speculative fiction.

Science fiction should to some extent be related to science that is in existence at the time of writing, i.e. the science should not be completely unbelievable or implausible, for the reason that it will then venture into the genre of fantasy. Sometimes the boundary between science fiction and fantasy can get fuzzy, but the primary separation between the two genres concerns whether the story is plausible or not. Rod Serling (1924 – 1975), an American screenwriter and television producer, best known for his live television dramas of the 1950s and his science fiction anthology TV series, The Twilight Zone, differentiated between science fiction and fantasy by saying: “Fantasy is the impossible made probable. Science Fiction is the improbable made possible.”

In Brave New Words (2007), Jeff Prucher defined science fiction as “a genre (of literature, film, etc.) in which the setting differs from our own world (e.g. by the invention of new technology, through contact with aliens, by having a different history, etc.), and in which the difference is based on extrapolations made from one or more changes or suppositions; hence, such a genre in which the difference is explained (explicitly or implicitly) in scientific or rational, as opposed to supernatural, terms.”

Many of the settings or story elements in science fiction deal with settings that are contrary to the known reality. Some of these may include:

Science fiction movies are all-time favourites of people as they are filled with great adventures and unusual imagination. These movies are basically scientific and are filled with picturesque details and vivid imagery. Most of the scientific fiction films are built on imaginary settings with imaginary characters like robots, space ships aliens etc. All science fiction movies contain some core elements. Apart from that, they also comprise of drama, mystery, horror and comedy. These films are the results of technical expertise and superb imaginary power of the scriptwriters and producers. Most Sci-fi films depict the stories of unknown planets, technologies and unusual quests of human beings. Often sci-fi movies display fantastic journeys and impossible missions.

Man’s imagination knows no bounds. These sci-fi movies portray those unknown mysteries about which mankind is quite unaware. For example, Frankenstein which was released in 1931 was a movie based on human cloning which is still to turn to reality. The Island of Lost Souls (1933) and David Cronenberg’s The Fly (1986) are some of the all-time favorites which deal with some of the vital things about human nature. Other extraordinary Sci-fi movies include Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) and The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957)). Scientific fiction movies are favourites of most of the viewers. The imagination involved in creating movies like Capricorn One is praiseworthy, which brilliantly visualises space-related warfare. You will find a plethora of scientific fiction movies online which can be easily downloaded to your computer. The noteworthy aspect of science fiction movies is that they deal with almost every aspect of the scientific world. The Alien which is an evergreen movie gives a visual description of the outer world of which human beings are still not sure.

Demon Seed released in 1977 beautifully screens the stories of the threat of supercomputers becoming saturated, The Omega Mann is about biological warfare and 28 Days Later is about plagues. Another aspect of the astronomy, the black-hole exploration is magnificently shown in the Event Horizon. There are a lot more scientific-fiction movies that can lead you to an imaginary world—full of fantastic experiences. Some reputed Scientific-fiction movies which you can find online are Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Metropolis, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and The Day the Earth Stood Still.
